Check out the packaging for the Instant Replay deluxe edition set, courtesy of Andrew Sandoval's Facebook page. Add Comment An update to the site and a few other notes for today: 1. I added two pictures to the 1996 North American Tour section (at the bottom of the page). 2. The very first Monkees greatest hits album (originally released in 1969) is being re-released on vinyl by Friday Music. Check it out here and here. 3. Below is a picture in relation to Instant Replay as we wait for the deluxe edition to be released. This one is taken from the 1969 tour book. Waiting for the release of the Instant Replay deluxe edition? Here's a sample clip of an alternate 'fuzz guitar' version of "Through the Looking Glass" - in mono. The first ad below was published in the February 15, 1969 issue of Billboard and the second ad on March 1, 1969. Thanks to JDistheone for the uploads! Don't forget to pre-order the Instant Replay deluxe edition from Rhino here. I added two new pictures in the 1986 20th Anniversary Tour section (at the bottom of the page right above the two YouTube videos) as well as a picture of the Monkees onstage in the 1969 North American Tour section (also at the bottom of the page, next to the concert ticket). Click here to read about the upcoming Instant Replay deluxe edition, to hear song samples and to pre-order. The release date is November 21, 2011. Per Rhino, the deluxe box will feature the following: 3 CDs featuring 87 tracks including 58 previously unreleased recordings, backing tracks and a generous selection of stereo and mono mixes for both album and non-album cuts A 45-rpm vinyl single of the one-of-a-kind acetate versions of "I Go Ape" and “(I Prithee) Do Not Ask For Love” Andrew Sandoval, who produced the set, posted the following on his Facebook page: "...the 33 1/3 tracks came out better than expected as far as recovering audio from different acetate and video sources....the Changes multitracks are still missing...very surprised just how much interest there is in this release, but I will say if you are a big fan, a lot of previously unheard material/mixes and unseen photos." Finally, courtesy of BenB5150 at the Steve Hoffman forums, here's a Facebook posting by the artist who designed the shadow box, Steve Stanley: "It's actually a shadow box design whereby the three primary "elements" are on three separate layers. The base layer is the multicolored collage; the next layer is the three center photos from the original 1969 LP; and the top layer is the text. If you turn the box to its side, you can see beneath the top two layers. By the way, the image you see here is a prototype. The cover image on the finished product won't have that milky sheen to it." Just to note: the sound samples on the Rhino pre-order page are not correct as of this writing. I'm sure they will be fixed shortly. Go ahead and place your order! This is sure to be another first class Rhino product. Per Andrew Sandoval on Twitter, the Instant Replay 3 disc box will be released on November 22, 2011. This link was live earlier at Rhino.com but it is now down. Check back later as I'm sure it will go live again soon. Someone at the Steve Hoffman music boards snapped a picture of the track listing while the link was live, which I've included below. (No cover art had been posted yet, however.) Nice to hear a confirmation on this set. It looks to be a 3 disc box with some really interesting choices making the cut. Based on previous sets, I'm sure it won't disappoint.
